I live in Colorado & am planning to be moving before the end of the year in state. I have heard it in posible to put my plants in pots until I move which I have done. What steps should I take to make sure that they are safe until I move. Should I bring them inside to my warm unairconditioned house to let them get use to the temperatures or should I only bring them in during freezing spells? Please help... these are plants that have come from my deceased grandparents & are of great remembrance of their beautiful gardens. When I do move... should I put them into the ground asap or when do you think is the best time? Thank you

You did not mention what plants you have and where in Colorado you are moving. For better assurance, check with your local nursery or garden center there. You can also follow the moving guidelines:

* Plants always need gradual adjustment to temperatures, so keep that in mind about where you locate them.
* Since the plants have sentimental value, you need to find out if your plants can tolerate the environment and the soil conditions where you are moving to.
* The day before the move, place your potted plants in a black garbage bag. Place a flea collar in the bag and tie the top of the bag securely to prevent any bugs that might have gotten in the plants from escaping.
* When moving, place the potted plants in a sufficiently large cardboard box lined with damp newspapers. Carefully cover the plants also with the damp newspapers to keep them moist during the move.
* When you unpack, remove the bottom of the boxes first. Since you lined them with damp newspapers, those bottoms will be weak.
* Carefully work on the rest of the boxes, taking the plants out with care to prevent breaking any part of the plants.
* Make sure to label the boxes and do not let the movers put them in the moving van. Plan on transporting them in your own vehicle. Be careful where you place them in your vehicle, so that when you are parked, they are not subjected to direct sunlight.

Good luck!
