Where can I buy Bromeliad "seeds" or pups from?
Modified on 2009-03-06
You can buy bromeliads at garden centers that sell houseplants or order them online. The bromeliads you will find already available in local nurseries are usually plants. You need to know exactly what you are looking for if you want them to order bromeliads for you. Some varieties are compact, and some are open, so consider the space you intend to locate the bromeliads. If you are not certain, try specialty growers especially if you want offshoots or pups. They will have knowledge of varieties and advise you on pups and which ones grow well indoor if you want to go that direction.

Bromeliads are easy to care for, and you can get offshoots or pups from the mother plant. Just wait until the pups are about a third to half the size of the mother plant and have sets of leaves before you cut them off. Use a very sharp clean knife. Replant the mother plant at once. You can pot the pups in a mixture of organic mulch and orchid potting mix. Make sure to put them in a shady place until they root.

One place you can order bromeliad plants online is from the Bromeliad page of our website: Growing Bromeliads. Scroll to the bottom of the page and look at the carousel of bromeliads and click on the pictured live plants. You can also go to Amazon Deals and type "bromeliad" in the search box.
